Jozef Laureyns

Jozef Laureyns graduated in 1976 as a Doctor in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ghent. Immediately after his graduation he worked in a private practice with mainly bovine clients and pig veterinary medicine as a side branch.
In October 1998 he left the practice and joined the former CDV (Centrale Diergeneeskundige Vereniging), to be employed at the Veterinary Service of the Ministry of Middle Classes and Agriculture, department East Flanders. His main assignment was to follow up the welfare of animals, identification and registration, and intra-community traffic.
On the 1st of April 2000 he joined the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Ghent to teach practical courses in the “Buitenpraktijk”. During 2001 and 2002 he completed the course “Vakdierenarts rund” with success. Over the years more assignments were added to the educational and public service tasks. Because of his special interest in BVD and neosporosis, infectious diseases became his specialization and Dr. Laureyns was deployed for the second-line company visits. The interest for BVD led to a few publications on this topic and eventually it has been decided to bundle the acquired knowledge and experiences in a PhD.
Jozef Laureyns is author and co-author of several publications in national and international scientific magazines and has been a speaker on (inter)national congresses and symposia.
