In deze laatste video gaan we vragen bespreken die eigenaars en dierenartsen vaak stellen over idiopathische epilepsie bij de hond. De antwoorden op deze vragen zijn grotendeels gebaseerd op de consensus statements die eind 2015 werden gepubliceerd door de International Veterinary Epilepsy Task Force. De eerste consultatie bij een hond met epilepsie neemt altijd veel tijd in beslag en het is belangrijk om de eigenaar goed te informeren. Voorbeelden van vragen die aan bod zullen komen, zijn: Bestaan er genetische testen voor epilepsie? Wanneer start je best met een behandeling? Sofie Bhatti graduated at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine – Ghent University in 1998. After graduation she received an assistant position at the same Faculty and developed a special interest in neurology and endocrinology. In 2006, she successfully defended her PhD thesis in endocrinology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht University, the Netherlands. In 2007, she became head of the clinical neurology department. Her duties include care for patients with neurological disorders, teaching neurology (to veterinary students, interns, residents), and neurology research, with a special emphasis on canine and feline epilepsy and treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy. Dr. Bhatti is an active member of the, in 2015 founded, “International Veterinary Epilepsy Task Force” creating awareness for this frequent neurological disorder in dogs and cats and producing consensus statements for classification, diagnosis, treatment, outcome, medical imaging, and neuropathology of epileptic patients. Dr. Bhatti is the founder of “Epicentrum”, a center driven by experts with a passion for neurology and epilepsy, supported by science, and strengthened by years of experience (www.epicentrum.ugent.be, facebook: Epicentrum - Epilepsie hond/kat – Ugent). She is the (co-)supervisor of several PhD students and (co-)author of more than 40 publications in international journals. She gave numerous continuing education lectures for veterinary practitioners and was invited as guest lecturer (national and international) on several occasions.
